Texas Stock Photos: McMurray Metals Building in Deep Ellum (Dallas)

My son and I spent the morning and afternoon shooting in Dallas on a mild December day. I really like the wide angle shot of this old building. I couldn’t tell if it was abandoned, but it quite possibly could have been. However, it was an abandoned building, it was the most secure one I’d ever seen.

This Texas stock photo from Dallas is found in my Texas Cities gallery. Once you go there, click on categories and then on Dallas to see more from this collection.

    Hello,

I just happened upon this photo and it just so happens, I have the answer to whether or not it is abandoned. No, it is not it happens to be my great uncle and his brother’s company. It was founded in 1929 during the depression. Edgar McMurry was my uncle, and he was a very interesting man. He married Vivian “Wright” McMurry. Aunt Viddie and he never had any children. So the company today is being run by my cousins. They were the coolest couple. They were actually married by Judge Lewsterit. The same Judge that the prison here in Dallas is named after. There are so many cool stories that my aunt would share with me. My Aunt died when she was 91 almost 6 years ago. She herself has a history, well the Wright family. I believe it was either her Grandfather or Great Grandfather who was the founder of Brown University. Also, my other Great Grandmother has history as well. Ever heard of a Men’s clothing company called Holley and Andrews. My Great Grandmother’s maiden name is Holley. Also, there’s an Historical marker in Pennington Texas where the Holley’s had a cotton plantation. I saw it only once when I was little. Anyway, I love history and to know that my own family has a really awesome history feels good. I love to share it with people. If you would like to know more about any of this feel free to contact me. There’s whole lot more where that came from. Well I could keep going and going, again if you would like to hear more just contact me at the address above. Thanks Jessica Hrozek

I worked for this company from 1957- 1963. McMurray Metals has a web site and a photo of the old 1941 Chev. pickup all fixed up.
John II & Edgar were both fine gentlemen. John’s son, JohnIII is now the President of the company.
